Bulgarian-British violinist Vesselin Gellev is 3rd concertmaster of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been a featured soloist with the LPO, CBSO, Spoleto Festival Orchestra, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, and The Juilliard Orchestra, among others. Vesselin won First Prize at the Concert Artists Guild Competition in New York as a member of the Antares Quartet, and has recorded several albums and toured worldwide as Concertmaster of Kristjan Järvi’s genre-bending, Grammy-nominated Absolute Ensemble. Prior to joining the LPO in 2007, Vesselin was Concertmaster of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, and of the Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Italy. He often performs as Guest Concertmaster with numerous orchestras in the UK and abroad, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, MDR Orchestra Leipzig, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome. Vesselin received Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at The Juilliard School, New York, as a student of Robert Mann. He has served on the violin and chamber music faculties of Cornell University and the Eleazar de Carvalho Music Festival in Fortaleza, Brazil.
